K9 Sports
Now the fun really starts. After learning the basic skills and establishing a confident and balanced relationship with your dog in Puppy Classes and/or Essential Life Skills, it's time to progress to the more advanced skills. Dog sports not only help you strengthen the bond between you and your four legged friend, it also challenges your dog both physically and psychologically. After a taste of the different options in Foundation for Dog Sports classes there is a variety of classes and levels to chose from. Those that are more ambitious can work towards competing at regional or even national levels while others may enjoy to just come for an hour of fun with their dog without the desire to compete with others. At On Q K9 Training there really is something for everyone.
Foundation For Dog Sports
Get a fun taste of things and learn the basics
Dogs and owners may have already gotten a little taste of things in puppy classes and life essentials where the emphasis was on forging a strong relationship and a social well balanced dog with the basic skills any house mate needs to know. In these Foundation for Dog Sports classes the focus is more on exploring the different disciplines without specialising in just one.
You and your furry friend will get a taste of Rally-O, Obedience and even a little bit of nose work. All help your dog to become more and more balanced and willing to follow your lead and direction. You will also further find out where your dog's and your own talents and challenges lie. With classes being small and attention personal at On Q K9 Training, we are able to adjust classes for those talents and challenges to make classes both effective and fun.
Rally O (Rally Obedience)
Rally Obedience, also known as “Rally O”, is a dog obedience sport that goes beyond the basic heeling, emphasizing fun and excitement for all involved — the dog, handler, and spectator. Rally Obedience includes over 40 obedience movements and is the ideal sport for those wanting a fun activity, designed to challenge and improve teamwork between the dog and his handler.
According to the Canadian Kennel Club the chief objective of Rally O (or Rally Obedience) is "to provide a fast-moving and motivational activity that demonstrates the competency of handler and dog in performing basic obedience exercises without requiring exact precision for success". They continue that Rally-O "can also provide the opportunity to refine training skills for competitors in other events.Dogs in rally obedience events should demonstrate willingness and enjoyment. To that end, handlers may use praise, encouragement, and petting throughout a rally course"
The different levels for this sport are: Rally Novice, Rally Advanced, Rally Excellent and Rally VersatilityAgility (Recreational and Competitive)
Dog agility is a dog sport in which a handler directs a dog through an obstacle course in a race for both time and accuracy. Dogs run off leash with no food or toys as incentives, and the handler can touch neither dog nor obstacles. The handler's controls are limited to voice, movement, and various body signals, requiring exceptional training of the animal and coordination of the handler.
